Project Description

Observatory Systems was selected to lead the renovation of the Thacher School Observatory. The observatory at this school has existed since the 1950's and has a long legacy of important research with NASA and UCLA. Observatory Systems visited the site to determine the scope of work required to bring the facility in to the 21st century. We worked closely with Sea West Enterprises, Inc, the construction contractor, on the redesign of the isolated pier and requirements for the upgrade of the power and data systems. Observatory Systems installed a fully automated Planewave Instruments CDK700 along with an Andor Ikon XL research camera along with a completely new computing and data system. The observatory is now in regular use for research by the students of The Thacher School under the direction of Dr. Jon Swift.
