Project Description

The University of Central Florida had an existing 30 foot diameter Observadome with a 1968 Tinsley Labs Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope. We developed a public observing program for the observatory using this very large telescope. The university eventually wanted to start doing serious research that required a more modern and reliable telescope. Observatory Systems was brought in to specify new equipment, design a custom pier to interface with the old pier foundation, install the entire telescope system and automate the dome. Recently the Robinson Observatory at UCF was struck by lightning and Observatory Systems was called on to provide input on repairing sensitive telescope control electronics for the telescope and mount as well as updating the dome and telescope automation systems.
